Had my trainer workout today instead of Friday due to Trainer going out of town. Cardio was on Elliptical. A few intervals at level 9. Honestly it was not that hard. I didn't turn my HRM on right at the beginning but by the end of the workout I had not quite burned 400 calories. Usually it is much higher.
The 5 year old had soccer tonight so we went out for dinner beforehand. I did OK but could have done better. I got the girl to bed relatively easily and was looking forward to watching 2 episodes of BSG while Elliptical-ing. However much to my horror my husband hopped on there. What the heck? Well I could go ride my bike on the trainer (and thus get my DVD fix) but I am going to go outside and run. Sadly, I started with that plan a half an hour ago when the sun was still out and now it is dark. I *hate* running in the dark ('fraidy cat) so instead of running anywhere insteresting or challenging I plan on circling my house 6 times on a 800m (half mile) loop. Exciting times! At least I'll be running. If I'm going to make that fall half marathon I have to be running at least 3 times a week if I'm crosstraining on the other days.
OK, it is now an hour or so after I wrote that... I am quite pround of myself. I conquered my inner 'fraidy cat and actually did an out and back run out of my neighborhood and to the end of the next neighborhood. Psychologically that is a far distance and ends with an uphill run but I did it! A year ago I could not run and now I can. That makes me so happy!!! So according to mapmyrun it was 5K. It took me 38:38. Max HR was 174. Average HR was 157. Calories 435

Tuesday
No running today just calorie burning (ran yesterday)
Elliptical part 1: 5:45pm. 44 minutes. 458 calories.
Hopefully I won't get trapped in the Nest of Doom and there will be a part 2 later tonight after kiddies go to bed.
9:18pm. Escaped from the Nest of Doom (2 year old's bed).
Elliptical part 2: 45 minutes. 438 calories (a little easier than earlier).
Just finished the last episode of season 1 of Battlestar Gallactica. Must get season 2 tomorrow. Darn cliffhanger. I can really zone out watching it though and 45 minutes just fly by.
Fatinah: You asked what sort of eating plan I was following. Basically I am following the Fly-by-th-seat-of-my-pants Plan. I did WWs years ago and basically learned portion size and a good idea of what points things were. I have tried to go back to it but just get frustrated by the amount of points that I am supposed to eat (the base points) because I can never stick to it. Anyways... I avoid fast food and junk food (but give in every once in a while). Basically I cross my fingers every week and hope for the best. That led to me maintaining from November until last week though. Not the best but I'm hoping that spring and getting outside more will push me along. After watching the Biggest Loser this season I was somewhat inspired to try to do what they do and I figure that they put in a lot of long slow cardio that does not bug their muscles too much so that's what is behind the cardio all the time. I definately don't want to do it forever but it led to a 2.6 pound loss last week so I'll ride that train while I can. If I can pull out a 1 pound loss a week for few months I will be a happy clam.

8 Weeks Til Summer Challenge - my goal
CanadianCarolyn has put out a blog challenge here: http://canadiancarolyn.blogspot.com/2008/04/8-weeks-til-summer-challenge.html
I made a goal to lose 6 pounds by 'summer' June 21st. Yes, I could have said I would lose 10 pounds but I have failed 1 too many 10 pound challenges. So 6 pounds here I come. This morning I was 184. I need to get to 178. Yes I will! Especially if I keep trying to hit 1000 calories of excercise a day like a crazy woman.
I need to update my list on the right to put all the challengers links up but I'll get to that tomorrow :)

Sweet! I finally rode outside on my Road Bike
Big shoutout to my girl Hazel who called me up this afternoon and invited me out to ride to Bragg Creek. That was so sweet! It was nice to see the mountains. They are so close yet I never take the time to stop and look at them. It was very exciting to be able to do that (ride along the road like the fit people). Thats what I have been working towards for almost a year now. Woo Hoo! I finally feel athletic again after 5 years of Mommy-dom (no offense Mommy-dom). Now if I could only run faster (whine whine whine)
Monday
Personal Trainer workout: Ran for 30 minutes (4km according to mapmyrun) + weights. It still pissed me off that I was working hard (170s HR) and yet I was only doing 7 and a half minute kms. I guess I just have to be patient, and maybe run more? Total workout 588 cals.
Easy Elliptical 43 minutes. 455 calories.
Later: Going for an outdoor bike ride on my road bike with my friend Hazel. I bought it in September of 2006 and this will be the first time I have ridden it outside. I hope I don't fall down :)

Cross Training Sunday
Birthday party for 8 five year olds (actually 6 five year olds and 2 three year olds). I thought it was a party led by a staff person for 2 hours. Turns out that the programmed portion was only 45 minutes by a dull teenaged boy. Yikes! 1.25 hours to kill with no plan. Well *phewsh* glad that is over. Lesson learned. Plan your own party!
7:30pm. Took the two kiddies out in the Chariot at their bedtime for 1.25 hours. Wheeee. Love pulling 80+ pounds of kids! 739 calories. Negative contact with the ground :)
I *REALLY* have to get myself running. Isn't this supposed to be a running blog? Um, I'll get back to you on that!

Saturday.
8:30pm. Avoided the nest of doom (2 year old's bed). Set the Elliptical to 90 minutes. 'ran' for first 30 (resistance 6, cadence 160+) then 60 minutes regular. 1040 calories.
Not sure if I will make it to 2 pounds lost by Monday. Scale this morning was only .6 down (had been lower day before). Eeps! Excercising like a nut doesn't always work apparently.

Half Marathon Training?
So I have been purposefully ignoring my 'Mega Plan', just excercising away on my Elliptical *burning calories*.
I think I wrote the mega plan with a view to do a Father's Day 10K. I think I can still make the half plan if I skip trying to train for a 10K. What to do, What to do.
Also I am still trying to decide whether to do an Olympic triathlon in August or do the half marathon in September. Since I already said I would do that half (Hi Amber!) I should really do that. Shouldn't I? I could so a sprint triathlon and the half. Frankly I think I'm really just scared of training for the half because I have not done any runs beyond 5K. Well I guess I did run for 60 minutes the weekend I was on my Scrapbooking retreat but that was forever ago! Grrr... Commence torture (I seriously dwell on decisions constantly until I make them)

I'm a Machine Today!
Thursday: Worked + Dinner out for 5 year old + Sucked into the nest of doom = no workout. Grrr.
Friday:
7:30 am - 40 minute interval program on Elliptical + 5 min cooldown = 522 calories.
8:30 am - not sure how long on level 6 (30 something) = 375 cals
9:30 am - Trainer Session: 10K time trial on bike + weights (damn BOSU!) = 571 calories
Now I am all excercised up and can maybe relax for a change this evening! :)

Rest Day Wednesday - Kinda
Well I wasn't *exactly* planning on a rest day. I did start on the Elliptical watching 10 minutes of Battlestar Gallactica then I was paged out to the 2-year-old-who-does-not-go-to-sleep-alone. (I really need to fix that problem).
So, after I got her to sleep, I did get back on the Elliptical for another 5 minutes and then thought to myself "Screw it!" and got off and sat on the couch to watch the rest of the episode. Tisk Tisk. I am only supposed to let myself watch if I am *moving*. Oh well.
Today will be hard to get the excercise in. 5 years ago today I became a Mommy! We are going out to dinner at Boston's Pizza (the kids pronounciation not mine) and his party is on Sunday. Cake #1 went to daycare today (and hopefully none of it comes back). I am on a mission to try to lose 2 pounds this week so cake is not an option!
My blogtastic friend Sherree posted a really good post yesterday on why we should excercise. Check it out here: http://surrendersheree.blogspot.com/2008/04/fitness-blog-exercise-or-not.html

Mon & Tues
Well, this week I am challenging myself to do as many calories as possible again.
Monday: Trainer: 500 (guessing) + Elliptical 475 + Elliptical 400
Tuesday: Run outside 20 mins (Max HR 183, Avg 164) 249 cals + Bike 42 mins inside 411 cals + Elliptical 42 mins 400 cals.
What's with the various 42 minute workouts? Why, because I am watching season 1 of Battlestar Gallactica and that is how long an episode is :) Now I'm wishing I had PVR'd season 4. Can anyone tell me if it is still on in Canada?

Making Excercising more convenient and a new toy.
So we spent the weekend painting the upstairs. We got the hallway done and one wall of the Livingroom/Diningroom. However, we made a big change and brought the Elliptical out of the 'workout room' and put it in the Livingroom. Now, the workout room is basically a bedroom off the main floor hallway. Why move an ugly piece of equipment into the Livingroom? Well, there are plenty of times when the kids are playing with their toys in the Livingroom when I figure I can get some easy cardio (just burn some calories) excercise in. The kids can't play in the workout room (it is too small etc.) so this way they can play or watch their kiddie shows while I burn up some easy calories. This is not a permanent change... this is an I'm sick of trying to lose this 20 pounds, lets attack it with excercise change.
So, yesterday I went to the workout equipment store to get a new mat for under the Elliptical (old one was too grody for the Livingroom) and on an impulse I bought a BOSU ball. Well, man that is crazy what mr. trainer can do with that. Everything was *so* much harder. Hoo Ha!

Old color of walls on left. New colour on right. This is my 5 year old trainer imitating my 28 year old trainer.

Shin-tastic!
So, I think it is cool that my leg can be sore to the touch, causing me to hop on one leg down stairs and the next day it is as if nothing ever happened. This is the best injury ever!
Had my Friday workout with the trainer. He does such a good job at making me work! Yay Kyle! Anyways... it does not look like I am going to get extra cardio in today because it is 8:10 and I have not put the kids to bed (supposed to go at 7:30). I am a slacker in that dept. when I have to do it alone (hubbie is working out)

First ride of spring
First ride of spring pulling 80 pounds of kids in the trailer. My heart rate monitor said I burned a stupid amount of calories and I don't quite believe it. If it is true then yippeeee!!! Using the kids to my excercising advantage = good.
Also I did 30 minutes of intervals earlier in the day on the elliptical. This excercise train is rollin again (crossing fingers). :)
I thought it would be fun to keep track of the following statistics:
Number of bike rides: 1
Number of times fallen off the bike: 1
Scrapes to the shinbone: 1 (left)
Why do I fall off the bike? I am always almost standing still and then stop, can't get both feet unclipped and go over sideways. *ouchie*.

To Many Friggin Tomorrows
*sigh* Each day for the past week or so I screw up my 'eating' and say to myself. Tomorrow will be better. Tomorrow I will get back on plan.
So, ya... today is blown too. I ate the unthinkable for lunch. (Greasy Chinese takeout? What the hell?). OK, so I probably have not eaten that in easily 6 months but what the hell?
Anyways.... Tomorrow? Will Tomorrow be the day? Or will it be a another 'I'll start tomorrow' day?
Did I really say hell 2 times in this post? I guess this makes 3.
On a tiny bright note I had my first workout with my trainer in 3 weeks. I woke up this morning with a sore (whatever that muscle is that hooks my shoulder to my chest). That made me happy. I love evidence of having worked hard. With 3 weeks off I could tell my muscles were fading. I will rebuild me.
However, due to my sadness and stuff I chose not to pick up my race package for my first triathlon (which was this past Sunday). I have picked out another one but it is in August (and I'm not sure if I can swing it because I am supposed to go on a Scrapbooking retreat with one of my sisters). Part of me is already toying with the idea of postponing my half marathon (since I have not run in 3 weeks). I am such a postponer-er.

Saturday
Did the Weight Loss setting on my home Elliptical. I guess it is 33 minutes (including 5 min. cooldown). It said I did 359 calories. I would like to do more but need to see what we need to do as a family today. I plan on doing more later.
Yep. Wrote that in the morning and then didn't do any more. Go figure.

Friday
Finally worked out, sort of. Took my trainer homework printout to the gym but had the 2 year old in the gym daycare. I did Half hour (walking) on the treadmill then only had half hour for the weights. I had 1.5 hours of daycare time but I was not changed before I dropped her off and then there was a problem with my card on the way into the gym. Anyways, better than nothing. I am on my way back but it seems like I have lost a lot (of fitness) in 3 weeks.

Tomorrow is a new Day
So, my dad and stepmom have been staying here since last Friday. They leave tomorrow. They were not here for a happy visit. Every single day has been spent spending time with my sister trying to give her what support we can.
Three weeks ago I flew off for 9 days to visit my dad. I came back home early Sunday. While I was away I did weights twice but no cardio. When I came home I did weights on the Monday, Tuesday was lazy and did nothing, then Wednesday we lost Lily. 10 days have now gone by and I have not done a single lick of excericse. That is a really long time for me to have beeb skipping workouts.
Tomorrow I start again. This weekend was supposed to be my first triathon but I'm not doing it. I just don't want to. I will however pick another one for this summer and work towards it.
I take the parentals to the airport in the morning and will get back on this excercising wagon. I definately need to revise the megaplan.
This death still makes me so sad and also mad. I just care for my sister so much I can't believe this has happened. I need to pick myself up though and get going again. It just really sucks when I stop and think about what has happened.

Hello Gut2Cut
If you know me from Gut2Cut and are wondering whats up I just am not feeling up to making videos or watching them right now. I am sure I will be back into it in weeks to come but right now I am dealing with the sudden death of my tiny neice. I am OK and have lots of family and friends here. It is very sad and aweful but we will make it through to the other side of this grief. You haven't heard the last from me but I'm signing off for a little while.
