Thursday's Run & Friday Cross Training

Did my run and was quite happy about it. Even though I am running extremely slow which does worry me some. I think the route was about 3.2 (ran it previously and checked on mapmyrun) and it took me 25 minutes and some (watch is not handy to be precise).

Still, it was running and I did it. The time for worrying about speed is not now. If I was 30 pounds lighter I bet I would be running faster :)

Plan for running tomorrow is to go out at 8am. It is now 11:15 am and I just got off the Elliptical from doing a crazy long session (1 hour 48 minutes). I have this wacky idea this week that I should do all my regularly planned excercise (run 4 times, 2 workout with trainer) and then try to add on an extra 4000 calories of excercise. Tonight I did 1001 calories. New record on the Elliptical.

Earlier today was my Kyle workout (Kyle is my trainer). For cardio he had me do the bike: 2km warmup, 1km at 3% grade (yuck), followed by 1km at 5% grade (holly heck!), then 2km flat for a recovery, then another km at 3% to top it off. This all took about 15 minutes as I recall but it was hard.

Then off to do pushups, arnolds, ab stuff, hammer curls, dips, and other stuff I am no doubt forgetting.

New Elliptical Personal Best - Wed. Feb 27th

I wish they sold previous seasons of The Biggest Loser on DVD because I have the best workouts while watching it. It just makes me want to go and go and go! Wednesday night I did Elliptical while watching my pvr'd episode and stayed on it for a hour and 23 minutes at level 6 (pretty easy level, no stress to the muscles). I did 855 calories, a new record. I'll have to try to beat it next week.

No Tuesday Run :(

So on Monday I had my working with the trainer. He had me do those standing lunges where you drop your knee all the way to the mat then drive the knee up in the air. They are Hard with a capital H.

Anyways, Tuesday morning I wake up going "Ow!". I tried stretching my quads throughout the day but by the end of the workday they still hurt a little when I poked them with my finger.
I asked the running expert husband if I should run or not and his advice was that running with sore muscles was not a great idea at this stage of the game (having only just started running) so reluctanly I did not do my Tuesday run. I did not replace it with other excercise either a) because Husband suggested we have a family night (rare, since he works out every day normally) and b) Tuesday used to be my one day off from excercising.

*sigh* I am slightly sad that I did not run but I'll get over it. Now to decide what to do tonight. I have the Biggest Loser PVR'd so I might do an Elliptical workout. I find I have a really good workout (longer, harder) while watching the Biggest Loser. Somehow it is really motivating.

Cross Training - Strength & Abs with Trainer

Good workout. Warmup was 11 minutes (or so) on Elliptical. 3 min. warmup at level 6. 2 minutes at level 12 (really hard to keep my cadence above 120), 2 minutes rest at level 6 and another 2 minutes at level 12. Then, 10 sets of stairs fast.

Other stuff included press on the ball (12 pounds), standing lunge with knee drive (boo), Step up on the stairs (step up two steps, drive knee, while holding 10 pounds I think), ab work including 30 seconds 'bicycling' (that is no fun), regular crunches with knees in the air, arms and legs holding on to ball then alternate opposite arms and legs down, side leg raises with trainer pushing on leg for resistance, same thing with clams, hammer curls, bent over rows with one hand on ball and one arm at a time (12 pounds), same position but tricep extensions. Yippee for no dips!

Not sure if that is all I did but who can remember! :)

Thinking of going to swim laps after Scrapbooking. I'm supposed to swim once a week in prep for my April sprint Triathlon but swimming laps really bores me these days. Funny, last June I was loving swimming laps because it got my heart rate up.... No so much anymore...

Hip Twinge

Hopefully I am just being Chicken Little but this morning I woke up with the tiniest little twinge in my right hip. It is right in the spot that stopped me from running the month before I got pregnant with GirlChild. At that time I went to Carolyn and she did accupunture on it. It never got fixed up because of the pregnancy. This and my sore feet scare the crap out of me.

Cross Training - Sunday Feb 25th

1 hour easy on the bike trainer virtual reality. Heart rate really low like 105 0 130. 438 calories.

Sunday Feb 25th - run

Ran 20 mins from the RR towards HP. 10 minute turn around came exactly where the path meets the neighborhood. It is about 2.6K according to mapmyrun.

Plan for this week is to run 25mins Tues, Thurs, Sat and 20 minutes on Sunday.

New Plan (like newer than my other 'New' plan this morning)

Didn't I tell you that I am always coming up with new plans? Well I spoke to Ms-A today and she informed me that the half that she had planned to do (M's) is already full. (crazy Runners!) Sooo... we tossed around the idea of doing the H-Half in September (no travel, chance for Amber to kicks its ass for the past). After hanging up the phone I got the calendar out and started counting backwards. Since I am barely running 3K right now this is pretty daunting considering I want to do the 10 week 10K plan before starting the 16 week half marathon plan. Well if I lay it out exactly as planned I would have to start the 10K training 4 weeks from now. YIKES!!!! So I changed it a tiny bit (took off the first week of the half marathon plan) and now the 10K training does not start until April 6th. *Phewsh* that sounds much farther away.

Honestly, the 10K plan kind of scares me. 6K sounds very long at this point when I am running 8 minute kms. Here's crossing my fingers.

Feb. 23rd 2008 run

Really enjoyed running today. I am just a beginner. I don't run fast but I can run and that makes me happy. I ran about 3.2K (according to mapmyrun) in 25:22. That is pretty much 8 minute/km pace but thats OK. I know I will improve. Right now I am just glad to be running.

New plan (why does it seem like I always have a new plan?). Follow the Running Room Advanced 5K program which calls for running 3 times a week with no walk breaks. I decided to start in the third week which is running for 24 minutes.
