So,
I have ignored my eliptical for a good 2 years. However, this week I have made friends with it again.
Yesterday and today: 40 minutes on the elliptical (400 cals - 5000 steps)
Total steps yesterday: 13,300
Total steps today: 9,000 (5,000 on the eliptical) and an hour of weights etc. I'm sure I will have another 1000 by bedtime.
I would rather have a treadmill than and Eliptical. The reason is I find it easier to get my heart rate high on a treadmill without having muscle soreness in my legs the next day. To get my heart rate up on the Eliptical I have to put the resistance up pretty high. However, stepping along on the eliptical is better than the couch.
When we move to our new house we are going to be really close to a long set of pathways. That is going to be great! I hope to walk/run/bike on those lots!

Thursday's results
Well, I had to print often at work today so I walked a lot of office steps which got me up to about 7200-ish steps by the time I got home.
After the kids went to bed I went for a brisk walk for 37 minutes and got myself 4184 aerobic steps.
My total for the day is 11775 steps. Better than yesterday! (yesterday's steps: 7116 including about 3000 aerobic)
Tomorrow I'm going to aim for 5000 aerobic steps. Might be a challenge since it is a busy day of birthday stuff for my youngest small human.
Now, some people might say that walking is not exercise blah blah blah. Right now for me it is. Also, it beats sitting on the couch. Am I right?

10,000?
OK. So I have not been up to much on the exercise front. I can't ignore it any longer. There has definitely been an increase to ye olde waist. What? How could this happen? Gee, I guess exercising must have been doing something after all. At least I did half an hour on the eliptical yesterday.
Anyways... it was nearing my mom's birthday and my aunt asked me to pick up a pedometer for my mom. While buying one for my mom I bought one for myself.
I have had pedometers before but they always annoyed me because if you looked at them sideways they seemed to add a step. Well not this new one. It actually seems to work.
Now, I would not suggest using one of these babies to record your distance while running but for recording actual steps it is kind of cool. It also has an algorithm in it to calculate when you are actually doing 'aerobic' steps. ie. moving your feet fast enough to be considered exercise.
There is a late 40s early 50s kind of guy at my work who has lost a significant amount of weight over the past 2 years. He watches what he eats and exercises. Whoa! Who knew that's what it took!
Anyways... I noticed today he was wearing the same pedometer that I have and at 11am his was showing 5400 steps. I chatted to him about it and actually the 5400 steps were aerobic steps. Holy hell! At 11am on a work day! That is kick ass!
He went on to say that his goal was 10,000 aerobic steps a day which usually works out to about 17,000 total steps.
Since I have had mine I have yet to get up to 10,000 period. It sounded easy enough but hmmmm....
Anyone want to have a step challenge? Minimum steps per day 10,000 and a challenge to who can do the most per day? (and please no pedometers that add steps by shaking them. hahaha). Post a photo of your pedometer at the end of the day or just type it?
This is a photo of my pedometer. The brand is Omron and I got it for about $40 at Shopper Drug Mart. They also sell a cheaper store brand one for about $16. I've had one of those before and they don't work so hot.
Another good thing about the one that I bought is that it actually works if you just stick it in your pocket. You don't actually have to display it like a pager on your belt! :)

6800 to go for today. So far my aerobic steps for today have been zero. It is rainy and cold out. Lucky thing the steps on the Eliptical count thought it is easier to get them running.

Monday
Walked kiddies to their schools instead of driving (ok, I don't actually know where my car keys are but still!) :)
Went for a 25 minute run/walk after dropping off kiddie #2.
Personal training session later.
Strongly considering writing down what I eat today. Go figure! :)

Got Moving on Friday
So, Friday I finally did some exercise. Hallelujah!
I went for a short run (20 minutes), walked back 20 minutes, did elliptical for 20 minutes.
I feel very out of shape.
This morning I went to "boot camp". It is at your own pace though and I'm attending it with my sister and I'm doing it with her (ie. walking up and down the hill instead of running etc.). It is nice to hang out and do exercise too. It is a lot of lunges, sideways shuffles, squats, crunches etc. The first week I went it was just my sister and I and 3 other women. Today there was 10 people in total. Anyways... it is worth going. It is cool to work out with my sister too. Maybe some of my friends will want to come with me. Friends? :)
I finally bought what seems to be an accurate pedometer. Previous ones that I've owned seem to be very flakey (add steps if you just shake them) but this one seems pretty solid. It counts steps on the elliptical too. So far today I am up to 4900 and I really have not done too much (aside from the hour bootcamp which did not record a lot of steps)..

Thursday May 13th
Hello to the 4 people still reading this blog! :)
The weather has turned rather nice in these parts. I was driving along home yesterday and thought, "Boy, I would love to live somewhere where it was in the low 20s and sunny all year round" (obviously I am talking Celsius here ppl). I thought maybe that might exist somewhere in Europe or maybe California or maybe nowhere. Anyways... wouldn't that be nice? Until then I have to enjoy the 5 reliable months of the year where it is mostly warm here in my part of the Great White North. Don't get me wrong. Some of the other 7 months are warm (ish) but its a crap shoot. Right now is the beginning of the 5 warm months. Yay! I particularly love May.
Anyways... enough about the weather. Back to me!
Well, I have not been completely sedentary. I have been keeping up with going to my trainer once a week (which is definitely not enough exercise but better than a 100% couch potato existance).
This week I even went running before my trainer appt. because my mom was picking up my small human from preschool for me giving me more freedom which is always nice.
On the lameness report I brought my running gear to run after work yesterday but due to leaving later than expected, slow traffic and a husband who was out doing active things I did not get that done. I could have gone out at 8:30 when he got home but I was a lazy couch potato. There I said it :)
So.... on tap for today is a 2 hour dental appt. to get a crown so I can chew on the right side of my mouth again. That will be nice. Then I am going to see that movie with the blue people with my mother. After that it will be dark so probability of couch potatoing is high but you never know. I could possibly use the dreaded Elliptical.
Tomorrow I am not working, the sun will be shining, I will be childless for 2.5 hours so if I don't report back that I worked out I should definitely receive some virtual scathing glances and eye brow furrowing. How about that?
My far away friend Steph has not been couch potatoeing. In fact she has been kicking it up a notch and has made it up to 46 minutes continuous. Holy Hannah! Look at her go! This is awesome. Now to follow her example right?
